Switch Accessible Games
Free browser games a child can play with one or two switches. Every control is a real button, reached with Tab and pressed with Enter, with a focus outline thick enough to read from across a table. Here is how to set it up, and where the limits are.
What is supported, and what is not
Straight version first, because this is an area where vague claims waste people's afternoons.

In short: the games are built to be driven entirely from a keyboard, and that is what makes them work with switches. The scanning comes from the device or the interface rather than from the page. For most setups that is exactly what you want anyway, because the child's scan speed and switch behaviour are already tuned at the device level and should not be overridden by a website.
How switch access works, briefly
If this is new to you: a switch is a single large button, or a pad, or anything the child can reliably activate, plugged into an interface that turns that press into an input the device understands. There are two common arrangements.
- Two-switch step scanning. One switch moves the highlight to the next item, the other selects it. The child controls the pace completely. This is usually easier to learn, and if the child can manage two switches it is the one to start with.
- One-switch auto scanning. The device moves the highlight along by itself on a timer, and the single switch selects whatever is highlighted when it is pressed. It needs only one action from the child, but it adds a timing demand, and the scan speed matters enormously.
Both work here. Because nothing on this site is timed and there is no way to lose, a long scan or a mistimed press costs nothing but another pass round the loop. That is not an accident: for a switch user, a game with a countdown is not a harder game, it is an unplayable one.
Setting it up on each platform
iPad and iPhone
Pair the switch interface over Bluetooth first, then go to Settings → Accessibility → Switch Control, add your switch under Switches, and assign it an action. Apple's own guide is Set up and turn on Switch Control. Open the game in Safari, and if you want the tidiest result use Add to Home Screen first so it launches full screen with no address bar and no browser chrome in the scan.
Android
Settings → Accessibility → Switch Access, then work through the setup wizard, which walks you through assigning switches and choosing between auto scan and step scan. Google's guide is Control your Android device with Switch Access.
Chromebook
ChromeOS has switch access built in: Settings → Accessibility → Manage accessibility features → Switch access. Google's guide is Use Switch Access. Chromebooks tend to be the smoothest of the lot for these games, because the games are ordinary keyboard-operable web pages and that is exactly what ChromeOS switch access is built to drive.
Mac
System Settings → Accessibility → Switch Control. Same idea as iOS, and it drives the browser directly.
Windows
Windows has no built-in switch scanner, so you need either third-party switch software or an interface configured to emulate a keyboard. The second route works well here with no extra software at all: set one switch to send Tab and the other to send Enter, and the child can move through the answers and press one. That is genuinely all these games need.
Which switch interface
No product recommendations here, because the right one depends on the child's existing kit and whoever supplied it. The thing to check on the box or in the manual is whether the interface can present itself to the device as a Bluetooth or USB keyboard, sometimes called HID mode or keyboard mode. Most of the common ones can, and many ship in that mode by default.
Once it does, the mapping for these games is short:
- Two switches: switch 1 sends Tab, switch 2 sends Enter or Space.
- One switch: send Enter, and let the device's own auto scanning move the highlight.
- If you have a third switch, Shift + Tab steps backwards, which saves a full loop when the child overshoots.
You can check the whole thing works before involving any hardware. Open Shadow Matching on a computer, press Tab repeatedly, and watch the thick outline move between the answers and the settings buttons. If that works, the switch will work, because to the page they are the same thing.
Which game suits a switch user
- Shadow Matching at two choices is the best starting point on the site. Two choices means the shortest possible scan before the answer comes round again, which is the number that decides whether switch play feels responsive or exhausting. Move to three and four only once the child is comfortable waiting.
- Match Words to Pictures works the same way and at the same settings. Same scan length, different skill.
- Tic-Tac-Toe is the hardest of the three for a switch user, and it is worth saying so. Nine squares is a long scan for a single selection, and the child has to hold a plan across that scan. It is playable, but it is not where to start.
Making the scan shorter
Scan length is the whole game for a switch user, so most of the useful adjustments reduce the number of things on screen.
- Drop to two choices. The single biggest improvement available, and it halves the wait compared with four.
- Set everything before you hand it over. Sound, voice, words and size are all buttons, which means they are all stops in the scan. Set them once, then leave them alone.
- Add to Home Screen. Launching full screen removes the address bar, the tab strip and the browser toolbar, all of which the device may otherwise scan through before reaching the game.
- Turn the words off if the child is not reading. Fewer things on screen, and nothing lost.
- Use the Bigger toggle. It does not shorten the scan, but it makes the highlighted item unmistakable, which matters more than it sounds when the child has to decide in the moment the highlight lands.
If you set this up and something does not work, that is worth telling me about rather than working around. Switch support is the kind of thing that is easy to claim and hard to get right, and the fastest way it improves is somebody describing the exact kit and the exact point where it broke.
